A vial of lyophilized peptide has a mass (say 5 mg) — but no volume. Adding bacteriostatic water turns it into a solution with a specific concentration.
Concentration (mcg/mL) = (peptide mass in mg × 1000) / BAC water volume in mL
On a U-100 insulin syringe, 100 units = 1 mL. So to dose a target in mcg, divide the target by the concentration to get mL, then multiply by 100 to get units.
Worked example: 5 mg peptide + 2 mL BAC = 2500 mcg/mL. A 250 mcg dose is 0.1 mL = 10 units on a U-100 syringe. You get 20 doses per vial.
